Biology Plus Notes- Nov. 9, 2015
First Period Only
Bell Work- Draw an example of what a Nucleotide of DNA looks like. Label the 3 parts.
Nucleotide : Phosphate, Sugar, Nitrogen Base
There are 3 parts to a Nucleotide!!! See above… Some bases have one ring and some have 2 rings.
Our genetic information is carried in these cells.
These are the building blocks of DNA and RNA.
The base is called Nitrogenous base because it is made up of nitrogen.
Nucleotide- Adenine goes with Thymine
(Apple in the Tree)
Cytosine goes with Guanine
(Car in the Garage)
Adenine and Guanine have 2 rings and Cytosine and Thymine have one ring.
The sugar of one nucleotide bonds with the phosphate the next nucleotide.
DNA is a double helix and RNA is a single.
DNA is found in the nucleus of the cell.
Students watched a video, which Coach P stopped and explained while viewing.
Students were then instructed to draw 3 nucleotides and show how they are connected.
