Biology Plus Notes- September 25, 2015

First Period Notes

Bell Work- Describe what it means if a species is Endangered.

Endangered means species number decreases to a very low level.

Biodiversity- refers to the variety of species in a specific area

Watched a video about the Biodiversity in the rainforest.

The video discussed the changes in the biodiversity in the rainforest.

The biologist traveled to the Amazon rainforest. He did not see all the organisms and different species that he thought he would see. Deforestation is an issue that needs to be addressed.

Biodiversity increases as you move toward the equator. Tropical regions have two-thirds of all land species on Earth.

The number of species depends on the number of habitats.

Extinction is the disappearance of a species when the last of its members dies.

A species is considered to be an endangered species when its numbers become so low that extinction is possible.

Activity- rite a 5-7 sentence paragraph which includes the following:

1. Give reasons why biodiversity is important.
2. Give examples of threats to biodiversity
3. Describe how people can help.
