English Harris Thursday

11-6-14- Harris Eng. 1

  1. Do Now!  WC. = Ex. 15, pg. 504 – Write the action verb and the direct object. (1-15).
  2. On board:  Progress Reports are forthcoming!
  3. Pg. 832.  Write the definitions of the words on the back of the handout she gave (pg. 48 handout).
  4. TEST TOMORROW ON ACT II.
  5. Be sure you ask for your work if you are absent.   She will continue to put “0” for where your grade would go.
  6. Pg. 832 = procure = obtain; predominate = something that you have more of or see the most of; intercession = a word you see often at church; pleading or getting involved  in your work.  Sallow = .  Lamentable = distressing; lament (v.); unwielding =
  7. On paper with vocab. words write down the definitions.
  8. Blank verse –know the definition of this and the definition of “summarize.”
  9. You will need (pg. 833) to know the meaning of blank verse tomorrow!!!!
  10. Summarize = make it shorter but keeping all the main (important) details
  11. Act II (pg. 835).  What is Juliet’s personality?  (You need to know this).  Juliet = cite evidence to explain what you say about her personality.  Juliet is a young 13 year old but knows what she wants.
  12. Romeo:  He is a nice person—he doesn’t like to fight.  He is depressed and is more serious; he is more into himself so he can’t have fun.  He goes after what he wants.
  13. Prologue:  Know what is the “chorus” – a group of people or one person who tells what is going to happen to the play.
  14. On handout, write in the middle of cluster web:  Romeo and Juliet.  They’re basically announcing how Romeo is over being in love with Rosaline, and has moved now on to Juliet.  Know the setting for scene 1 and scene 2.
  15. Who is Mercutio?

  17. Pg. 838 = Based upon what’s going on, why does Juliet say those famous lines.  She is upset that he is from a family that she can’t be associated with. She tells him not to listen to his father but to refuse to be a Montague and the idea she is putting forth is that he doesn’t have to go by what his father says.  She says you are who you are regardless of what name you go by.  You are who you are, regardless of what people call you.
  18. Pg. 839 – Romeo doesn’t like his name because it makes him an enemy of the girl he loves the most. He realizes that the name is the reason for the family feud.
  19. Pg. 841. He doesn’t want their love to change so don’t swear by the moon because the moon changes.
