10-29-14 Eng. 1 – Mrs. Harris

  1. On board = Writer’s Choice:  Pages 498 – 499.  Ex. 5 and Ex. 7.  Follow the directions.
  2. She announced this is your 5th entry for “Do Now” until next Wed.
  3. On board= Homework:  Romeo and Juliet, Act 1, Sc. 111, Page 500 – WC book, Ex. 9 (1-10).
  4. Today’s Objective:  Analyze and interpret complex text.  Romeo and Juliet (audio).
  5. If you have trouble, come and see her.  She added that she left at 6:00 yesterday.
  6. On board:  Google:  nfs.sparknotes Romeo and Juliet modern text.  If you go there, it will come up the original and translated text of Romeo and Juliet.  The screen is split with the old and modern version.  The text, however, (pg. 808) has more information that you’ll need.
  7. Read all of Act I which end on pg. 830.
  8. Remember who was trying to break up the fight at the beginning? Benvolio.  
  9. The age of Juliet is 14.
  10. Who are the 2 quarreling families?  The Capulets and the Montagues.
  11. Romeo confides in Benvolio.  The word they used then and use now: “cuz”
  12. Pg. 813.  Romeo said that love will stress you out.  He tells this to Benvolio.
  13. Take our Reading Warm-up A.  Summarize:  means to briefly state (tell) what it is you have read.  
  14. As you read, stop every now and then and try to answer the questions in the book.  Be sure you can answer these.
  15. How does footnote 8 help you understand logic in line 36:  
  16. Do page 29 on your handout from yesterday.
