Biology Plus Notes- Dec. 10, 2015
Bell work- Use your cell diagram (pictures) to do the following:
I am an organelle that “traps” energy from sunlight.
I have a pigment inside which makes me appear green.
What organelle am I?
Chloroplast
Plants absorb nutrients from the soil to make their food.
Chloroplast traps energy from the sun.
Photosynthesis= Glucose
Exam Review:
Golgi Body (Golgi Apparatus) (looks like a wifi symbol)-packages and distributes proteins. It is like UPS, Fed Ex… Golgi is away from the nucleus. More than one can be in a cell.
Note: Students should have 13 cell parts and functions on their sheet.
Centrioles- Centrioles are only seen in the animal cells. The Centrioles work in cell division.
They are cylindrical (shaped like a soda can).
Nucleolus makes the ribosomes that make the proteins in the nucleus.
Note: Animal cells are circles. Plant cells are rectangles.
Cytoskeleton: Cyto = cells; Skeleton=Bones
Cytoskeleton is the bones of the cell. It gives the cells structure. They are pieces inside the cell responsible for keeping the cell shape and structure.
Cell Wall: Only in plants and bacteria; The cell wall is rigid (stiff, firm) outer covering which protects the cell and provides structure. That is why plants stay still. They don’t run away from predators. They need to stay still and protect themselves.
