- Do Now: Welcome to the 4th quarter. Many games have been won or lost in the second half. What do you need to do specifically to make sure you conquer English I without delay or confusion? - BIG REMINDER: “The 13 Reasons Why” Test is on Friday. She may ask you on the test what a certain means and why it pops up, but please go online and get a summary or see if you can find a practice test. You can even go to 13reasons.com. If you didn’t use your time well in the library then you might be in trouble.
- Today’s lesson: Confusing words.
- Know how to use and what each means: who’s, whose, their, they’re, there, your, you’re and know difference between affect and effect. Note: effect means result, or the consequence of.
Note: it’s supposed to ---not suppose to / used to ---not use to
A lot = 2 separate words. Know the differences between: Lose and loose. Already = before but if I say “I’m all ready to go.” Use the words separately: all ready
- On board: Homework: Read/study for Test on Friday. Read, study…& take notes on pgs. 1028-1033—Lit. book.
- Affect: ex: “I was affected by the weather.
- Effect: ex: “The weather had a bad effect on us.
- If I’m running and I get off (course, or course). Which is it?
- I’m writing on paper, I’m writing on “stationery” = note: stationary = stay still
- “set” = to place something down; “set” it down.
- If I give you advice, it’s advice ---not advise you (it’s the verb form)
- Accept vs. Except = I will accept a gift from you. All the answers were right except #10.
- Principle vs. Principal = Principle = truth; or rules
- Note: “too = shows degree; how much of something. Ex: I ate too much to sit down.
