UNITED STATES and CANADA


THE UNITED STATES AND CANADA:
·      The two largest countries
·      The two wealthiest countries (WHY? we have good soil, resources, tourism)
·      World Leaders: of the economy (money), military, resources, our culture, political


CLIMATE:
Is weather over a long period of time

            CLIMATE OF CANADA AND THE US:
·      Extreme Variations: They have really cold areas and really hot areas
o   Artic Air:
§  Cold Air from the artic (above 66.2 degrees, the artic circle)
§  WHERE? Canada
o   Hot Moist Air from the Gulf of Mexico
§  Known as humid subtropical subtropical means: (below 23.5 degrees)
§  WHERE? Southeast
o   Maritime climates
§  Moderated, controlled by the ocean
§  WHERE? Coasts, Florida, California, etc.
o   Continental Climates
§  Not affected by the oceans)
§  WHERE? Large interior land mass
o   Rainfall:
§  More in the east… less in the west
o   Jetstream:
§  Mixing of air masses = storms
