Endoplasmic Reticulum
1.
Rough ER: makes proteins and lipids
2.
Smooth ER: makes carbohydrates and lipids
Golgi Apparatus
·
Stores your food
·
Transports inside and outside of the cell
Mitochondria
·
Digest protein
·
Is the powerhouse
Cytoplasm
·
Gel in the cell
Vesicles
·
Do not have membranes
·
Made in the Golgi apparatus
Vacuoles
·
Store food and waste
·
Do have membranes (organelle)
Cytoskeleton:
1. Micro Tubules:
a.
Long protein tubes
b.
Responsible for helping substances pass through
the cell
2. Micro Filaments:
a.
Long thin protein fibers
b.
Responsible for giving the cell its shape and
they anchor organelles
Lysosomes (Only in
Animal Cells)
·
Digest (eat) worn out material/organelles in the
cell (get rid of the bad)
·
They protect the cell from foreign agents
(things that aren’t suppose to be there)
·
They are like the white blood cells.
·
Lysosomes are organelles
·
If lysosomes fail or die… then the cell begins
to break down
(like the police of the cell)
Chloroplast (Only in
Plant Cells)
·
It makes plants green (Chlorophyll)
·
Chlorophyll
is the green pigment (color) inside chloroplast that makes plants green
·
Where photosynthesis happens
Cilia (mostly in
bacteria, has legs) and Flagella (in
eukaryotic cells, has 2 tails)
·
Are responsible for helping certain cells move
REVIEW QUESTION
Plants have more
vacuoles than animal cells… WHY?
Because food is made less
frequent…. Only when there is sun. So they have to depend on vacuoles (food
that is stored).
