They need the items by this weekend, but they will probably make another trip in the fall.
From: Director of Speech-Language Pathology Services
Hello Everyone,
I just returned from an investigative trip to the DR and Haiti and now have a better idea of what they need. We will be packing for the trip this Friday and leave on Sunday, March 4th . I know this is last minute, so I understand if you can’t pull anything together before we leave. We will be going to the CAES School for the Deaf. They need school supplies and I have gotten most of them in the past at the dollar stores.
- Scientific calculator
- Scissors-multiple
- Erasers-multiple
- Thick crayons (red, blue, black)-multiple
- Wide adhesive tape-multiple
- White and colored chalk-multiple
- Construction paper-multiple packs
- Red, black, blue pens-multiple
- Composition notebooks
Hearing aid equipment:
· Hearing aids
· Instamold Instant Earmold Kits
· Pediatric hearing aids kits
· Dry and store with desiccants (no plug in models)-25
· Hearing aid batteries (size 13 & 675)
· Pocket talkers
· Battery testers
· Cleaning brush with loops or hearing aid maintenance kits
· Audiowipes
We will also be at the House of Light which is an orphanage for children with special needs. There is a critical need at this location for diapers, and supplement powder for added nutrition. (The children live on a diet of rice, beans, sugar, and powdered milk.) These items will be cheaper if we purchase them in the Dominican Republic, so if you would like to give a monetary gift, that would be great. We also need:
· Baby spoons
- Children’s books in Spanish
- Simple basic needs augmentative communication boards (pictures and if written words are included they need to be in Spanish)
- DVD player
- DVDs of educational programs (Spanish if possible)
