THE CARBON CYCLE

•       It is the Cycling of carbon and oxygen

•       Three main processes

Photosynthesis – plants use carbon dioxide; produce (make) oxygen

Respiration – uses oxygen, produces carbon dioxide (both plants and animals)

Combustion – burning – releases more carbon dioxide

·       Atmosphere: Layer of gases around the earth

·       Cycle: Repeated events (happens again and again)

CARBON

·       Carbon is in every living organism.

o   Our Atmosphere, Oceans, Earth, People, Plants, Etc.

·       All living organisms (plants/animals) store (save) carbon in their bodies.

THE COW and the CARBON CYCLE

·       When the Kate the cow breaths, she breaths in oxygen and breaths out carbon dioxide

·       The plant Pat takes in carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the air.

·       When the cow eats the plant, she is taking in (inside her body)carbon.

PLANTS and the CARBON CYCLE

·       The plants use photosynthesis and the sun to absorb carbon into the plants
